You Can’t Connect the Dots Looking Forward
I initially heard this quote in a podcast, but upon further research, I found that this quote was something sad by Steve Jobs.
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
This quote has rung true in my own life and applies to me today.
When I look backward, I see that the different steps in my life have come together to make me the person I am today.
When we need to make decisions for the future, we tend to want to look forward to connecting the dots.
If this, then that.
If I get this degree, I can get this type of job.
With this type of job, I can move to this city.
And the list goes on.
But actually, we don’t know if those dots will connect. I have to remind myself to take it one step at a time, and then see which dots connect as I walk forward.
